Oscar Wildes A Picture of Dorian Gray presents many themes, including battle and influence. In this novel, sea captain hydrogen Wotton creates a conflict with the naïve and innocent Dorian Gray by influencing and mentally restrict him. Under this influence, Dorian becomes a gentile, constantly pursuing merriment and everlasting beauty. This one-way conflict, where Lord Henry almost on the whole controls Dorians emotions, is the cause for Dorians downfall and death.
